The Goal is Not Perfection

"The goal isn't to be perfect... the goal is to learn and have fun."

This is what I told my girls as they hopped on the bus this morning. This was completely out the norm for my "morning pep talk." Typically, I'm encouraging them to "be kind" and "be a great friend." But this morning, after a restful and fun spring break, I didn't want them to feel the pressure to answer all the questions correctly, finish first, or read the entire book. They won't always be kind or a good friend, but I hope they are learning and developing into the best they can be.

Those words lingered as I sat down to begin my work day.

The goal isn't to be perfect.

The goal isn't to go viral. The perfect content doesn't exist. Yes, I want to create content and do quality work that aligns with my values. But it's more important to do, and to learn, and to have fun, than to create content that is flawless and meets all of my expectations. The "perfect" content is the posts, blogs, emails, etc. where I learn and grow and share my heart.

The greatest work I do is the culmination of weeks and months of effort not one moment of high-quality effort.

What are you putting off today because it's not perfect. What have you put on the back burner because it doesn't feel ready. Go ahead and put it out there! Get some feedback and go for it again! Your content and your work is perfected as you continue to do it. So go ahead. Hit publish, send, and share! Your best work is what you put out there, not what's sitting in your drafts.
